A 1.1 carat diamond has no single price, and at this weight the grades matter considerably more than the weight does. Two stones both at 1.10ct can differ by a wide margin.
The interesting thing about 1.10ct is its position. It has cleared the 1.00ct threshold — the biggest single price step on the whole scale, and the one buyers most often pay for without thinking — and it sits a long way below the next. The weight above one carat is therefore bought at a comparatively even rate.
That cuts both ways, and it is worth being honest about it. If the number matters to you, 1.10ct comfortably clears one carat. If it does not, a 0.95ct stone looks identical on the hand and sits below the step entirely. Both are defensible; they are just different decisions.
Price ranges and what changes the price

On the exact weight: ask to see 1.05ct to 1.15ct together. They are indistinguishable on the finger and the spread across that range is often larger than buyers expect, because sellers price to the round number rather than to the millimetre.
How carat, cut, colour and clarity affect cost
The four characteristics are graded on the scales in GIA’s grading methodology, with report types described in GIA’s guide to report types. At this specification each behaves in a particular way.
Carat
1.10ct clears the 1.00ct threshold, which is the largest price step on the scale. Above that mark the rate is relatively even until the next step. If the specific figure is not important to you, it is worth comparing a 1.10ct stone directly against one just under a carat before deciding — the visible difference is very small.
Cut
The grade to protect. At 1.1 carats a well-cut stone is noticeably brighter than a poorly cut one of the same weight and grades, and it will often look larger too, because good proportions carry weight into the face-up diameter rather than burying it in an over-deep pavilion. If something has to give in order to reach this weight, let it be colour or clarity.
Colour
From around a carat upward, colour begins to assert itself. The metal matters as much as the grade: a yellow or rose gold setting reflects warmth into the stone and makes a lower colour grade look intentional, while a white metal gives tint nowhere to hide. Specify colour according to the metal you have actually chosen.
Clarity
In a brilliant cut at this weight, inclusions that need magnification to find are unlikely to be seen in wear, and paying beyond eye-clean buys a number. Step cuts are the exception and need a tighter specification, budgeted for from the start rather than discovered mid-search.
Natural vs lab-grown price differences where relevant
The choice between a natural and a laboratory-grown diamond is the largest single variable in the price at 1.1 carats, larger than any individual grade. A laboratory-grown stone is a real diamond — same crystal structure, same hardness, graded on the same scales by the same laboratories — with its origin stated explicitly on the report.

Setting, metal and design costs
At this weight the stone dominates the total, but the setting is no longer trivial. What drives it:
- Metal type and mass. Platinum is denser than gold, so an identical design needs more of it by weight. 18ct contains more gold than 9ct.
- Accent stones. Halo, pavé and channel designs add many small diamonds, each hand-set.
- Bench hours. A plain solitaire is the leanest build; engraving, milgrain and bespoke geometry all add time.
- Finger size — a larger shank uses more metal, a small but real factor.
A halo makes a 1.1 carat centre read considerably larger. Some buyers reach the visual effect they were after with a smaller centre stone and a halo for less than a plain solitaire at the size they first had in mind — worth pricing both ways before committing.
What a dated quote should contain
Because we price from live availability rather than a fixed catalogue, a quote is a snapshot rather than a standing figure. A useful one identifies the exact stone: carat weight to two decimal places, the millimetre measurements, all four grades, the issuing laboratory and report number, treatment status, fluorescence and origin. It should also separate the stone from the mount, so you can see what each is costing.
If a quote gives you one figure and a carat weight, ask for it to be broken down. Two stones that both answer to the same carat weight can differ substantially, and a quote that does not identify which stone it refers to cannot be compared with anything.
How to compare quotes without comparing unlike-for-like
Nearly every unexplained price gap between two quotes is a specification gap. Line these up before concluding one is expensive:
- Origin — natural or laboratory-grown, stated explicitly rather than implied.
- All four grades, not just the carat weight. A quote giving only weight cannot be compared with anything.
- The issuing laboratory and report type — identical letters from different laboratories do not mean the same thing or carry the same price.
- Millimetre measurements — a deep-cut stone looks smaller for the same weight.
- Treatment status and fluorescence — both appear on the report and both move the price.
- What the quote includes — sizing, the report itself, an insurance valuation, any aftercare.
- The date of the quote, since availability and metal rates both move.
If one quote at this weight is materially cheaper, check origin, then cut grade, then the issuing laboratory, then the exact weight to two decimal places. Those four account for nearly every unexplained gap at around one carat.
